Axis Directory member Bethan Hughes was the recipient of the third Axisweb Artist Award. Bethan, along with fellow artist Anya Stewart-Maggs, has used the award to help set up Poor Image Projects, a nomadic AV & moving image art platform.

About PIP

Poor Image Projects is an artist-led platform and event series for the collective exploration of audio-visual and moving image art. Each instalment of PIP aims to represent a different artistic perspective on the manifold forms and functions that time-based media, moving image and audio-visual assume. Technical, tactile, high-definition, analogue, computer generated, sensual, ubiquitous and poor— PIP aims to acknowledge the multiplicity of AV expression and how this materialises in both artistic and everyday contexts.

The format of PIP events is fluid, shifting between screenings, flash-exhibitions, performances and artist talks. Furthermore, in response to the temporary nature of inner-city art spaces and the inherently mobile characteristics of AV media, PIP is nomadic, unfolding in various different locations in and around Leeds.

Poor Image Projects is led by artists Bethan Hughes and Anya Stewart-Maggs and is kindly sponsored by Lumen and supported by Axisweb. Additional thanks go to East Street Arts, The Tetley, Jules Lister and Jamie Hudson.

The first PIP event Poor Image Projects 1. Harriet Rickard takes place 21 June, 34 Boar Lane, Leeds.
