After a magical kayaking trip in Thailand I was inspired to paint the anthropomorphic forms of a mangrove forest, where we had our only encounter with wild monkeys. I loved the interwoven skeletal branches of the mangroves and they reminded me of some stick men I made a few years ago from tree branches. The light in the forest was wonderful, filtered through the thick mangrove leaves it pricked through sharp shadows backlighting the dark mangrove boughs.

Painted in oil on a birch wood panel, unframed.
