Identity

Share

In this week's Playlist we present a selection of videos by our members that have a theme of 'identity'. These have been guest-selected by Claire Rongying Duan who's currently undertaking a Postgraduate Work Placement at Axisweb.

Emma Ainsley, Hims and Hers, 2011-14

These two videos ("Face Off" and "Hehehe") are a playful exploration of identity.

Amelia Crouch, Tha Inmate World, 2014

Work produced during a residency with The Art House, Wakefield in November 2014. The work responds to Fell House, an ex-West Yorkshire Police office building. It was developed from audience responses to a questionnaire about work and identity, research into body language and Myers Briggs personality types as instrumentalised in the workplace.

Susan Francis, Ladies how does it feel, 2015

Video meshing together three elements, a preening male protagonist pleads in evangelical tones with the faceless inhabitants of a tower block, his language and macho posturing a throwback to the less gender neutral age of my childhood. The lifeless movements however are controlled by technicians, the voice my own but digitally altered, the script adapted from a speech by the wrestler, Superstar Billy Graham, a playful exercise in identity with perhaps a deeper subtext.
