EDITORIAL

Watch our film about Social Works?: Live, a celebration and exploration of socially engaged practice which took place at Manchester School of Art on 26 April 2019. The event brought together 11 commissioned artists, 3 commissioners and a dynamic fringe space of social arts practitioners from across the UK - and internationally.

For June's Artist of the Month we've selected Yoke (artists Annie Nelson and Chris Woodward). We talk to them about their collaborative practice and two big projects they've recently undertaken - 'Akkyduck' and 'You Can Only See Today'.

Heading to the Venice Biennale this year? Check out Nicole Mollet's pick of the the top 12 artworks to see. Her highlights include works by Laure Prouvost, John Okomfrah and Sean Edwards.

It Takes a Region to Raise an Artist is a research project seeking survey participants from Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, and Rutland. The survey will close on 30 June 2019. and the results will be published in Autumn 2019. Follow #ItTakesARegionTo on Twitter and Instagram for project updates.

We have more copies of our Social Works?: Open for sale. Social Works?: Open speaks to the precariousness of socially engaged practice during an extended period of government-led cuts to arts funding across the UK, and the continued importance of maintaining and supporting a critical voice within socially engaged art.Contributors include: Jen Delos Reyes, Kerry Morrison, R.M. Sánchez-Camus, Claire Mead, They Are Here, Harvey Dimond, Lauren Velvick, Les Monaghan and Joe Cotgrave.

In our monthly What's On Guide we share events from our Axis Directory members that are happening in June.
