Axis is delighted to announce that submissions are once again open for Social Works?, the journal of social practice art. Building on our recent AHRC-funded SAFEDI project with Manchester Metropolitan University and Social Art Network, this will be a special issue on equality, diversity and inclusion in social art asking: How social art might influence EDI policy and institutional practice, and help to change communities’ relationship to arts organisations?

We're hiring!

Axis seeks to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic evaluator, who will assist our small team at an arts charity committed to supporting and promoting artists.

We are looking for a highly organised individual with a proven track record of evaluation and research who can demonstrate flexibility across the organisation’s varied activities. You will have a keen eye for reflexive practice, the ability to work independently and prioritise effectively, and importantly, help the organisation understand itself through a period of growth and change.

Prior experience working in arts evaluation with an emphasis on community and digital deliveries are preferred.

  • Time: 40 days (flexible)
  • Fee: £5,000 flat fee

FREE online talk

The ‘Drawing for mental health and creative refocus’ workshop with Liz Atkin next month has already sold out! However there are still places available for Liz’s talk Drawing as a Tool for Recovery which takes place on the 20th April at 7pm.

In this FREE talk, artist and mental health advocate, Liz Atkins, describes her personal journey using art-making to help manage her compulsive skin-picking condition—and leads a few optional drawing exercises. Open to all!

We are delighted to share with you our next exhibition taking place in the Viewing Room by our Praxis cohort of 21-22.

Praxis is part of our graduate programme where we offer professional development to a group of recent graduates. We place emphasis on supporting the cohort with mentoring, talks and other opportunities. This year some of these artists would like to publicly showcase their recent work or works in progress. We will also be hosting an online talk later in the month.

Exhibiting artists are Toni-Jane Barnard, Katie Carter, Belinda C Golding, Lucy House, Africa Olle Marina, Esme Monk, Sayoko Takahata, Muneerah Yates.

We would also like to thank Sean Roy Parker, Lisa Dickinson and Emily Speed for joining our Artist talks.

For #Five2Watch this week we've selected five artists who have made work with dance in mind: jo dennis, Madi Acharya-Baskerville, Lucienne Cole, Robin Clare and Alison J Carr.

New Art Highlights of the week includes: Elly Clarke, Susan Banks, Arabel Lebrusan and Philip Watkins.
